Radiohead legends Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood made a rare interview appearance stopping by the hugely popular Smartless podcast hosted by television icons Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes and posted yesterday (March 21).

Promoting new project The Smile, the duo were given the rare opportunity to answer borderline simpleton questions, which is honestly what we need from them at this point to create a stimulating interview (see Colbert in 2011).

The hosts broke each other’s chops in typical SmartLess fashion much to the audible enjoyment of their interviewees. The five of them discussed breaking down Computer World with Kraftwerk on tour, the guitar work on “Andy Warhol” off David Bowie’s Hunky Dory which Yorke mentioned he obsessed over as a child (and which Arnett mimicked), and Thom’s recent obsession with Damien Lindeloff’s The Leftovers which he considers a step up from the last show he binged: Downton Abbey.

Jason Bateman also got to ask the two if they had seen the email threads which led to the band’s team giving permission for usage of both “Deck’s Dark” and “The Daily Mail” in Ozark since they are one of Bateman’s favourite groups. Jonny Greenwood admitted that catching the needle drop in the show surprised him. Of course, someone had to ask a question about “Creep,” the band’s highest streaming song and perhaps one of their least performed live as of recent decades. Yorke then told the story of how friend and Undercover designer Jun Takahashi asked him for an extended version of “Creep” leading to the nine-minute “Very 2021 remix” that was released last year.

It was a great pod. Check it out below.

SmartLess are currently expanding their operation receiving licensing from Wondery and Amazon Music and launching a full scale media company with Richard Korson who produced Jon Stewart’s Daily Show as president. The group has more shows in the pipeline with Amazon and Wondery receiving first look exclusive rights to any shows that will be produced by SmartLess Media.
